The Force Is Strong With This One . . .

The PCA Spring 2009 Band Concert was held this past Friday night, and we had front-row seats for the occasion! Unfortunately, until I have a little more experience with band concerts my photos are going to be pretty boring; I am definitely not the type to sneak out into the middle of the aisle and snap pictures while the band is playing, so for now I have to content myself with photos taken while the band is warming up. I am also still getting used to my new camera and specifically the lens that gives me nice close-ups; therefore, when Darcy's name is called for "Outstanding Woodwind - 5th Grade," this is what I get:


Yeah, it would have been nicer if I'd actually gotten a shot of Darcy with her mentor, wouldn't it?

And perhaps "mentor" is the wrong word; "Master" might be more appropriate, given the other award Darcy took home that evening. Mr. Brown, the band director, announced that each year he chooses an "Apprentice" whom he thinks has a bright future and once again, Darcy's name was called. Only this time he called out "Darth Cy" (which will totally sail over your head if you're not up on your Star Wars trivia; think Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Darth Sidious--take your pick). Get it? Darth Cy?! Mr. Brown claimed that Darcy's classmates gave her that name, an assertion that Darcy seemed to support given the shade of red that her face turned when Mr. Brown began making his announcement. He hadn't even called her name but she knew exactly who he was talking about!
