Who Are You and What Have You Done With My Son?

Who would have ever thought that my once shy, quiet, not-willing-to-speak-up oldest son would turn into a tough-as-nails, nerves-of-steel player on the baseball diamond?! This season, and the transformation of Tyler, has been a sight to behold. Last night he got things started when he was first up to bat; he watched two strikes go by, saw a couple of balls and then knocked the snot out of the next pitch for a homer. (Clark, I apologize in advance that I once again forgot my camera which means I had no means for shooting a video of the event!) The look on Tyler's face as he was rounding third was unforgettable. You could tell he was calculating whether or not he could make it home safely--yes, that's right, his coach sure wasn't the one who sent him! I don't think there has ever been a closer play at the plate and when the umpire called "SAFE!" my heart finally resumed beating! Where did Tyler get this new-found confidence?!

And now let's talk about his pitching. Man oh man oh man! You should have seen this kid! All of the parents marvel at his accuracy, and he gave them even more reason to marvel last night. Last night was absolutely his best outing yet--his experience and confidence are really starting to show. In his first inning he allowed only ONE hit and NO runs! We have grown used to hearing the opposing coaches tell their boys not to swing unless the pitch is "perfect," and last night those kids were swinging their hearts out but they could not get past Tyler! It was awesome. Is this how the parents of future major leaguers feel?!

GO T!

Boy would it be great to be there to see Tyler playing ball in person. It's amazing what a little success fosters confidence and how confidence leads to more success, etc.
